I am 73 years old, a father of two and grandfather of six. I really was never aware of any loss of hearing until the last few years, when my occasional failure to respond to a comment or question became a bit of a family inside joke. I did, however, notice that I increasingly had to ask my wife to repeat herself. Finally, I went to a hearing specialist, Dr. Shaila Nanjundiah, for testing, which revealed, much to my surprise, a significant hearing loss. In fact, I wasn’t aware of the extent to which I no longer heard things until I was provided with hearing aids on a trial basis. Almost miraculously, I became aware of sounds I had not heard in years, especially when listening to classical orchestral music, when I realized that I had been missing out on entire instrument sections! Conversations became infinitely easier, as I rarely had to ask anyone—including my wife—to repeat themselves. After the initial trial, I ordered my present pair of hearing aids, which Dr. Shaila adjusted according to my needs. Even after wearing them for months now, I am still amazed at the difference they make. The ticking of the antique wall clock that hangs about five feet from my office desk is inaudible until I power up my hearing aids. Conversations in noisy, crowded venues like restaurants now are easy—especially since my hearing aids are instantly adjustable according to the surroundings with an easy-to-use app. The other aspect that constantly surprises me is that people rarely are aware that I am wearing them. Caring for and wearing them has become a regular part of my daily routine. Not recognizing my hearing loss—or perhaps not wanting to confront it—no doubt delayed my adoption of hearing aids, and if I had known the difference they make I would have done it years ago, but gradual hearing loss over a period of many years is difficult to detect without appropriate testing. From a quality-of-life standpoint, addressing hearing loss in an effective way is a game-changer.

My husband and I highly recommend Dr. Shaila Nanjundiah at Audiopedics. We both have been wearers of hearing aids for over twenty years, and when we were recently shopping around for replacements, we discovered Audiopedics. We both have had excellent care throughout the whole process — hearing evaluation, fitting, and selection of the correct hearing aids to fit our needs. Melissa, the office manager, is also very personable and a pleasure to deal with. For over a year, there has been no hesitation on Dr. Shaila’s part to answer our many questions and she continues to work with us whenever needed — always with a smile and a warm welcome. If you have any need of an audiologist and their services, do not hesitate to contact Audiopedics.

I’d been aware of my hearing loss for some time but my ongoing research into hearing aids (HA) only caused me added concern because of the cost and apparent risk of a less than satisfying outcome. Then, about 6 months ago, I met Dr. Nanjundiah. Unlike some other HA professionals with whom I’d interacted, she’s not only clearly qualified in both hearing and speech, she’s an excellent communicator who answers any and all questions I may have in the same open and honest way. An important step for me was being able to take advantage of the opportunity to try a loaner pair. While not inexpensive, they cost less than I expected. In addition, her interest in my success with them did not diminish with the sale. I’m not one to recommend to anyone restaurants, let alone health related professionals, because my unique experience may not in fact be representative of everyone’s. However, I have no reservations recommending Audiopedics and Dr. Nanjundiah to anyone with an apparent need for hearing aids.

It was easy getting my hearing checked and getting fitted for hearing aids. Shaila knows her stuff, and was able to help me get started with my first pair. I am much happier now, since I can hear at least as well as everyone else — and maybe even better!

I have searched for years to help my son with eating issues that began early in his life. We have been to some of the biggest hospitals and visited some of the best doctors on the east coast. However, we ended our search for help when we started going to Audiopedics. Dr. Nanjundiah knew exactly what my son’s issues were and knew exactly how to address them. If you are looking for solutions to your speech related issues then she is definitely the person to see! I cannot thank her enough for her help — she changed my life and my son's.

After meeting with Shaila and having my hearing aids reprogrammed, everything is going very well. I am very satisfied and pleased with her level of service. Although any of these devices will never give 100%, Shaila’s expertise and interest in getting it right makes a big difference in allowing people like me to hear better. I very much appreciate her dedication and look forward to working with her in the future.
